Marie-Chantal
Marie-Chantal Anctil owns a bachelor’s degree in French studies
and a master's degree in museology. While studying, she began,
from 1997 till 2001, her training in oriental dance with Claudette
Biron. Since 2004, she has taken classes with Aziza, from
Portland. She took numerousworkshops with international
master teachers such as Rachel Brice, Meissoun, Elizabeth
Artemis Mourat, Jalilah, Jilina, Dalia Carella and Hélène
Eriksen. Besides oriental dance, she studied barathanatyam
(India classical dance) with Ginette Dion from 2001 till 2004.
Her meeting with the contemporary choreographer Motaz
Kabbani had a great impact for Marie-Chantal who started
taking classes with choreographers from the contemporary
field. She studied Zab Mbougou Loketo’s technique,
interpretation with Jo Lechay, balance and transitions with
Donna Krasnov. Her interpretation and technique improved
in many ways.
From then on, her dancing took a new turn: fusion. In 2001, she had the dream to founded an American Tribal Style troupe, but it is only in November 2003 that les Trib’elles are born. Active in the contemporary scene, Marie-Chantal Anctil participated, in 2001, during the creation and during the resumption, in 2002, in the show “Silences et Cris” produced by Carbon 14 and staged by Gille Maheu. In summer, 2002, she participated in the creation of the solo “Prelude à l’après-midi d’un faune” choreographed by Motaz Kabbani. Since 2002, Le Faune was presented at the Fringe Festival of Independent Dance Artist (Toronto), at Tangente in the series the Majeurs, at the Studio 303 ( Off-FIND), at the Society for Arts and Technology, at the Pierre-Péladeau Center and at the St-Denis Theater during the Arab Festival World. In 2004, she is invited to dance Le Faune at the famous Joyce Soho Theatre in New York and receives a scholarship from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. In 2005, during the Sinha Dance and of the Festival Accès Asie, Marie-Chantal presents Le Faune at the La Chapelle Theater. |
